  • Data on 116 first lactation milk records of Murrah buffaloes spread over a period of 23 years (1984 to 2006) maintained at the Cattle and Buffalo Farm, Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar were used to study the effect of season of calving, period of calving and age at first calving on first lactation traits. The first lactation traits considered were first lactation milk yield (FLMY), first lactation length (FLL), highest weekly yield in first lactation (HWYFL) and week of highest yield in first lactation (WHYFL). The overall least squares means for FLMY, FLL, HWYFLL and WHYFLL were 1365.08±2.98 kg, 313.16±0.43 days, 48.74±0.11 kg and 10.49±0.37 weeks; respectively.
