Measures of reproductive estimates in rural buffalo herds of Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh (India)

Data for the years 1995-96 on 2989 buffaloes from 518 farmers of different villages around the Western Campus of the University in Modipuram (Meerut) were collected by direct interview with the objective of studying the reproductive status of buffaloes in the area. Average age at first service and first calving, duration of observed heat, number of estrus without artificial insemination/ natural service and number of services per conception were 40.99+-0.28 months, 52.49+-0.34 months, 18.17+-0.099 hours, 1.86+-0.046, 2.06+-0.052, respectively. Rate of abortion, stillbirth, dystocia, metritis, prolapse and retained placenta were 4.04, 0.09, 4.81, 3.41, 3.91 and 4.01 percent, respectively, in the buffaloes.
